1 - 'Crusading' [by Varrier-Jones]; apparently page proofs of the address to the National Insurance Association for the Eastern Counties and the Council of the Cambridge Friendly Societies listed in his bibliography under its eventual sub-title of 'Work as a Factor in the Treatment of the Consumptive Working Man'.

'1917', referring to the report on the Colony, has been written at the top of the first galley.

9 - Confidential memorandum for minute 14 of the Finance Committee Meeting of 16 February 1927 by Reynell Wreford [Secretary of the Village Centres Council] about the London Office of the Village Centres Council which it proposes should 'become the nucleus a national revenue and finance organisation for the general establishment of Village Settlements' and be responsible for all 'propaganda'.

43 - Life - and Hope. Home, Work, Wife and Children' by Warwick Deeping [novelist]. Deeping was a Cambridge-educated doctor who had practised briefly in London and during the Great War served in the R.A.M.C. He left medicine owing to the success of his writing [Venn, Alumni Cantabrigienses; www]. He was a vice-president of the Settlement and willing to lend his name to the donation forms distributed with the 1932 and 1933 Annual Reports (see 1140/5/9/2-3). One of his novels, Smith (1932) has as its subject a patient with tuberculosis. See also below, 1383/19/2.
44 - Carbon copy of letter to [The Times] responding to report of proposal by Lord Willingdon in issue of 13 January 1941 about the establishment of a National Rehabilitation Board. No name subscribed.
45 - Obituary of Lord Willingdon, chairman of the Village Settlement 1935-41 [perhaps by Wreford], with notes about a Varrier-Jones Memorial Lecture, noted for N.A.P.T. Bulletin.
