TitleKing George V on horseback inspecting the troops on Portholme.
DescriptionThe Hunts Post of the 23rd January 1936 carried the news of the death of King George V and reproduced this photograph taken in September 1914. It was captioned "On only one occasion had his late Majesty honoured Huntingdon by his presence. This was in September 1914, soon after the outbreak of war, when he came to inspect the Highland Brigade (under the command of Lord Lovatt). His Majesty, on arriving, mounted his horse and rode across Mill Common to Portholme, where he inspected the Brigade, and smiled at the emergency transport, including milk floats and farm carts brought by the Brigade from Scotland. The above is a previously unpublished photograph of the King riding across Mill Common. Although the taking photographs was strictly forbidden, Mr E.S. Whitney managed to secure the above snap with a miniature pocket camera"
