| Description | The original Catholic Church in Newtown, dedicated to St Michael the Archangel, was an iron structure, erected in 1872. It seated a congregation of about 90 persons. The new Catholic Church, which still stands in Newtown, fronting Hartford Road, was built in 1901 by C. Temple Layton Esquire of Brampton. It is built of brick, with stone facings in the Norman Style,and can seat a congregation of about 150. Presumably this image was taken shortly before the old church closed. |
