TitleShop Fire, Huntingdon
DescriptionThe old list to the collection identified this as the remains of Murkett's premises after a fire in 1924. There is, however, no record in the Maddison and Hinde order book of a photograph being taken of this event. The order book does record that a photograph was taken in 1903 of the aftermath of the fire at the shop of Danns & Chandler, wholesale and retail grocers and provision merchants, 144 High Street, Huntingdon. This shop stood on the corner of the High Street and St Clement's Passage - the fire engine with ladder certainly looks as though it is in St Clement's Passage. A crowd of onlookers is inspecting the wreckage.
