DescriptionA group of employees in the rear yard of the shop of George Russell, wholesale grocer, of The Broadway, St Ives. The Maddison and Hinde order book records that a photograph of Russell's Shop was taken in 1906, which may be this image. According to Bob Burn-Murdoch's book "Victorian St Ives", George Russell took over the wholesale grocer's shop of Reade Adams in The Broadway in 1889, and he continued his business here until the 1950s. It is now A wholesale grocer would have supplied other shops as well as running their own, and the men in the shorter, coloured aprons would have worked in the yard or on the delivery waggons, while the men in the white aprons would have worked in the shop.
