TitleMr. A.H. Smith-Barry, M.P.
DescriptionFull-length studio portrait of the Right Honourable Arthur Hugh Smith-Barry (1843-1925), Conservative Member of Parliament for the Southern Division of Huntingdonshire, 1886-1900. He was created the first (and last) Lord Barrymore of Cork in July 1892. As his only son had died in infancy in 1871, the barony became extinct at his death in 1925.
He donated the Smith-Barry cup for cricket in 1890, and many of the photographs in this collection are of Huntingdonshire teams who won the cup in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The final, where each team could bat for 65 overs, was believed to be the longest recreational cricket cup match in England. Local quoits teams also played for a Smith Barry trophy
