Description | Members of the Montagu family gathered outside Hinchingbrooke House, with the Countess of Sandwich and her nurse looking out from an upstairs window. The members of the group were identified in 1995 by Lady Elizabeth Montagu, who is the young girl on the extreme left of the image, as the nurse employed by the family and known as "Scottish", the Countess of Sandwich, Lady Muriel North, Lady Helen Best (nee Montagu), Sir Bernard Rolt [?], Ailwyn Best, Lady Olga Montagu, the Honourable Drogo Montagu, Lord Hinchingbrooke, Lady Elizabeth Montagu, Lady Emily Hart-Dyke, the Right Honourable the 9th Earl of Sandwich, Gillie the dog, Lady Florence Duncombe (nee Hart-Dyke) and Lady Mary Montagu. Ernest Whitney has written "The Montague [sic] family at Hinchingbrook [sic]" on this print |
