DescriptionThe view, taken from the church tower, looks towards Portholme Meadow and the grandstand at the race course. Racing ceased on Portholme in 1896. Post Street is in the foreground. The Holme and Island Hall can be seen alongside other houses in this section of Post Street. The Maddison & Hinde order book records that a view was taken from the Church tower. The entry is undated (entries were not dated until 1894), but from its position in the book this image was possibly taken c 1885
