TitleOverseers. Volume containing rates and accounts
DescriptionRates 1831 include first assessment of New Court, St. John's College; occupants listed by staircase.
Other premises assessed include James Foster's vinegar, starch and mustard factory, Magdalene Street, 1824 - 1836.
Various notes on front fly leaf concerning payment of University Money 1816 - 1826.
Memorandum 1825 as follows: 'Mr. Taylor thinks there will be no more delay in the payment of this money. It has been withheld from the Parishes on several reasons - first, to make the Mayor take some oaths, which had been neglected. Secondly, some dispute with Sidney College about being rated to the poor for some houses in Trinity parish. Thirdly, Trinity College would not pay up arrears. What other reasons there may have been, I hope, as well as Mr. Taylor, that they will be all forgot. He says the money will be paid regular in future'.
Memoranda on first page: 'The boundary of St. Peter's parish divides in the centre of the road from the end of St. Peter's Street to the road to St. Neots near Mr. Newsams, and this day St. Giles agreed with St. Peter that instead of each Parish mending the road to the centre they should divide the road and each Parish mend its half. St. Peter's took the top, drawing a chain from St. Peter's Street to the centre of the road, and then a line was drawn to the end of St. Peter's share of road to keep in repair, which measured one hundred and one yards. A post was to be put down by St. Giles' parish on the side of the road by the end of the garden wall where St. Peter's Parish was to end and St. Giles' begin', 27 April 1826;
£40 allowed to William Cropley as reimbursement for money 'laid out on the building and fences belonging to the garden ground' rented from the parish officers, 3 July 1826.
Settlement certificate posted on to other side of first page, for Ann Foreman of Comberton, 22 October 1833.

(Two loose pages at front. Calf bound).
