The Vestry Minutes include a detailed account of the meeting held on 21 April 1805 to decide on plans for building a new church on to the old tower of St. Cyriac's, the parish church (St. Mary's) being in a dangerous and dilapidated state. Mr. Humphrey to be in charge of the works, and materials to be provided by the parishioners, lead, timber and iron work removed from St. Cyriac's to be sold and proceeds to be appropriated to the rebuilding fund. Application to be made to the be Bishop for a Brief 'as the inhabitants are chiefly farmers at Rack Rent, and much burdened with poor'.
1809 Costs of rebuilding total £3,165.
1901 Proposals for Rood screen and Allix Chapel to be erected in the restored St. Mary's Church.
1901 11th September Contract signed with Messrs. Cornish and Gayneer of North Walsham, for the rebuilding of the nave and North aisle, temporary work on the tower and installation of heating apparatus.
1902 13th February Contract for rebuilding South aisle, 17th October Fabric completed, 22nd October Church rededicated by Lord Alwyne Compton, Bishop of Ely.
1903 Proposal for St. Mary's to be constituted the Parish Church of the United parishes of St. Mary and St. Cyriac, Swaffham Prior (Faculty granted 25th November 1903).
1905 - 1907 Abortive proposals for the constitution of Reach as a separate Parish. (Full details of the work of restoration are contained in St. Mary's Restoration Book, P150/3/13).
