Description(The keeping of log books in grant aided school was made compulsory in 1862.)
Includes daily details of attendances (many absences due to agricultural duties, feasts etc.) curriculum, punishments, 1870.
Inspector's Report blames the coldness of the building, which served a double purpose as a school and a church, for the children's disappointing performance.
January 1871 'several children cry with cold'; school closed March 1871 - March 1876 when a new mistress was appointed who experienced constant difficulties with the ignorant, unruly children, very irregular attendance and great opposition from parents. 'The people are extremely bad to manage. They consider their children perfection and a punishment inflicted is a crime, they also expect the mistress to allow them to run errands, go home or anything they choose after the two hours secular instruction has commenced'.
1881 The mistress' house in very ruinous condition - 21 January 'the thaw has brought down the roof of the house literally leaving nothing but tiles. Bedding and everything has had to be brought down and the only habitable room made a sleeping apartment'.
1882-1888 considerable improvement in staff, behaviour, accommodation and results. From 1888 details of the syllabus had to be supplied yearly to Government Inspectors. 1899 elementary science introduced.
1900 House next to Church Farm furnished by the Managers as a new residence for the school mistress.
1902 Average attendance 45-50, but the older boys receive very little education as they are so frequently absent at work in the fields.
By 1903 new accommodation urgently needed.
