TitleManuscript volume titled “Historical pedigree of the Montagus” by George Montagu
DescriptionContaining rough notes copied from various historical sources, transcriptions of monumental inscriptions, poetry and engravings, concerning several branches of the Montagu family (including the Hinchingbrooke and Halifax lines). Much of the focus is on the family of Brigadier General Edward Montagu and his wife Arabella Trevor. A list of “the birth of my father’s children” suggests this may have been compiled by his son George Montagu (1713-1780).
Includes list of portraits in the hands of other branches of the family, at the front.

Several items have been pasted in, including:
- Letter to Mrs Ann Montagu from her brother, Brigadier General Edward Montagu, concerning a gift of 5s from their uncle n.d.
- Receipt for plate and jewels “sold by Mr Dod after my father’s death”
- An account of the birth of the children of Brigadier General Montagu and Arabella Trevor between 1710 and 1719
- Letter addressed to “Brother” and signed “Chandos” about the repayment of £105 (26 Nov 1650)

Loose items now stored in a separate folder, include additional handwritten generalogical notes as well as personal reminiscences of the writer’s relations. And the following:
- Account of the pension due to the Earl of Manchester as one the Gentlemen of the King’s Bedchamber between 1678 and 1682
- Copy of the inscription on the tombs of the Earls of Sussex at Boreham [Essex]
- Pedigree showing the descent of the Lordship of Abergavenny from Eva, wife of William Cantelupe, to Mary Lady Vane (born 1604)
- Notes on the Parr family, with drawing of the coat of arms of William Parr, Earl of Essex and later Marquis of Northampton
- Letter from H. Edes reporting the death of “your cousin Wortley Montagu” (Edward Wortley Montagu 1713-1767) the provisions in his will and bequests to his illegitimate children
