TitleTitle deeds to Bernard properties in Ellington and Grafham
DescriptionThe bundle contains two original labels, suggesting two seperate sets of deeds have been merged into one.


"Deeds relating to a farm at Grafham purchased by Sir John Bernard of Huggins. Abstract no. 5". Presumably this originally referred to:

- extract of the will of Thomas Needler, late Citizen and Joiner of London (1711)

- feoffment between: (i) John Huggins senior of St Martin in the Fields [London] (ii) John Huggins junior of the same place. Farm with barns, stables etc at Grafham. (1719).

- draft abstract of title of Mr Huggins to lands at Grafham (after 1735)

- receipt for rent received by William Huggins from George Raitt for his farm at Grafham (1755)

- lease and release between: (i) William Huggins of Headley Park [Hampshire], son and heir of John Huggins the elder of St Martin in the Fields, deceased. (ii) George Raitt of Huntingdon, Doctor of Physick. Farm with barns, stables etc at Grafham (1755).

- lease and release between: (i) George Raitt of Huntingdon, doctor. (ii) Sir John Bernard of Brampton. Farm at Grafham as above. (1755).

- abstract of title to a farm at Grafham purchased by Sir John Bernard (1790).



"No. 7. As to a freehold and copyhold estate in Ellington... purchased of Mr Cockerill 1776". Presumably this originally referred to:

- lease and release between: (i) Francis Cockerill of Huntingdon (heir of the late Robert Hardley of Huntingdon) and Mary his wife. (ii) Sir Robert Bernard of Grafham. Close called Bears Hunch and several others in Ellington. (1776).

- Manor of Ellington. Surrender by Francis Cockerill to Sir Robert Bernard. Various copyhold fields in Ellington. (1776).


In very poor condition. Unfit for production.
