Title | First pages of a letter to Millicent, Duchess of Manchester, from her mother, Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow, Clifford Street |
Description | She has been detained here by several matters, including enquiries about a new pastor for Christchurch and the changes at home as to Seaton and Sully, who have now been dismissed with a year's wages. She has tried to deal with the latter as quietly as possible but there has been an outcry in their defense. Please tell all you know, in confidence. Her mind is much pressed by this business of [her grandson] Kim. It is a turning point for him and the means of drawing him out of an unprofitable and idle life. She wishes M would have written to Lord Sandwich about the Borough but may do it herself. She has spoken to Mr Nugent and Mr Haldane, a 'valuable lawyer' who was introduced to her by J. E. Gordon.
