| Title | Letter to Millicent, Duchess of Manchester, from John D. Lane, rector, Forncett St Peter [Norfolk] |
| Description | Colenso's anxiety over Fred is obviously great and he is gratified to see that he keeps a close eye on his charge. Reverend Ellis Walford, rector of a parish in Suffolk, has enquired whether the Duke would be involved in his plans for the formation of a school for the sons of the clergy. He now encloses a letter from Walford. He has also heard from an old friend in the navy who was at Madeira with his mother and sick sister during the riot and who conveyed Dr Kalley to shore. His mother, Mrs Tate, died on board a vessal near Funchal where she had taken refuge. |
