TitleLetter to the Duke of Manchester from Henry John Ker Porter, Lyttleton [New Zealand]
DescriptionCongratulating the Duke on the outcome of the court case. Reports news of the Duke's son, Lord Frederick, who was in low spirits but greatly sustained by letters from his sister. Discusses arrangements for sale of Lord Mandeville's property. Mrs Cookson has passed on news of the Duke's £800 for "stocking a run" for Frederick. Not a good idea because living conditions would be too harsh for his state of health and most flocks are currently suffering from scab. Encloses a letter from Dr F. Mackellar reporting on Frederick's state of health and advising that he should return to England. Porter agrees and awaits the Duke's further instructions.
