TitleLetter from Robert. H. Inglis to the Duke of Manchester
DescriptionLetter regarding the case of Dr Julius Michael Millingen's children in Rome.

Ignlis states he receieved the Lord Duke's letter of the 27th July and hastens to answer it. Gives his recollection of the case of Millingen's children: Millingen married a Roman Catholic, his son is a Physician in Constantinople and married a "freek"[sic] but seperated. The father saw a case for removing the children from the mother and so they are living with the grandmother in Rome. Millingen presented through Lord Beales and through Ingle. Ingle spoke with Lord Aberdeen and Lord Canning. Case is clear and unless judicial authority decides otherwise, the children will remain with the grandmother. Queen's ministers state that they cannot make this a matter of diplomacy and if the case were in England it would only be a matter of law; "if English people chose to go abroad, and place or leave their descendants in Roman Catholic countries- they can hardly expect their own government to see their claims satisfied".
