TitleLetter from Lord Dalhousie, on behalf of the Duke of Wellington, to the Duke of Manchester
DescriptionLetters and draft reply concerning an address to Parliament.

Letter 1 from Lord Dalhousie in Whitehall, London, to the Duke of Manchester dated 07 December 1844:
Asks the Duke to make an address to Parliament, describing it as a "duty which nobody likes, but which nobody would be better than yourself".

Letter 2 draft reply from the Duke of Manchester to Lord Dalhousie dated 09 December 1844:
Very glad Lord Dalhousie has undertaken to know his feelings. His desire at this time is for the carrying on of the government and would be gratified if any effort he makes would be approved by the Duke of Wellington. It is with regret he should have to decline. The opposition to scriptural education in Ireland and neglect of agricultural interest compels him to decline.

Letter 3 from Lord Dalhousie to the Duke, dated 10 December 1844:
Received leter of the 9th and acknowledges the Duke of Manchester will not give an address and is sorry for the reasons of his refusal. Will see the Duke of Wellington tomorrow and will "comminicate to him your determination."
