TitleLetter from Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow, Champs-Élysées [France] to her daughter, Millicent Viscountess Mandeville
DescriptionWrote a few lines the last day of the departing year, but was prevented from sending it. Quotes Romans 13:12 "the night is far spent, the day is at hand" and hopes many are yet in store for Millicent.
Lady Sparrow is returning after 18 months absence. Asks Millicent to look back at the last 19 years of marriage "which seemed to promise all the world" and ask "what has been my portion?". For many years Lady Olivia and Millicent had not seperated night or day, Millicent was her hope for comfort and support in declining years. Prays for her, her husband and children. Still detained in France on advice not to venture due to weather. The Rodens have not yet come. Guesses Mandeville is at Nice. Hopes they have all recovered from the influenza.
Signed by her affectionate mother OBS.
