Title | Letter; Granville Vernon, Huntingdon, to 7th Earl of Sandwich. |
Description | Will try and find out the numbers at Bedford for the last 6 weeks. The numbers vary depending upon the number of recruits coming in. More recruits are obtained during the winter months than now. Sometimes the recruits are kept at the Depot for some months; sometimes they are sent off to the home Battalion almost at once. Mrs Fisher has sent the bill for the staff dinner: it comes to £5. Has received an order that any Serjeant of the Permanent Staff over the age of 55 is to be retired at once. Embury and Stevens, being both close on 60, will have to go. They are going to accept Loftus's resignation. |
