TitleLetter; J.G. Green, Buckden, to 7th Earl of Sandwich.
DescriptionIs sending a letter from Mrs. Sherrard, which was sent on by Colonel Vaughan for the Earl to see. Will wait upon the Earl at Hinchingbrooke at any time if he wishes to discuss any Militia business. Enclosed: Letter G.M.S. Northampton, to [Colonel Vaughan] A most unexpected thing has just occurred. Had mentioned before that her son-in-law, Captain Crompton, was using his interest to secure a commission for her son, Charles but had not expected him to succeed, and had, therefore written herself to Colonel Vaughan. n.d. [January, 1846] Has now heard from Colonel Markham of the West Riding Militia that Charles is appointed to a Lieutenancy in that Regiment. This is a very desirable thing as Charles will be going into her own county and Colonel Markham is connected with the Crompton family by marriage. Hopes that this letter will arrive before any final steps are taken for Charles's admission into the Hunts. Militia. Thanks Colonel Vaughan and Lord Sandwich for all the trouble they took.
