TitleDeclaration of the majority of the nobility, gentry, clergy and freeholders of the county of Huntingdon, assembled at a meeting held at Huntingdon.
DescriptionThe declaration is signed by 161 men, including Lords Sandwich and Hinchingbrooke. They have objected to a Petition to Parliament proposed at the meeting, and declare that since there is no proof of misapplication of public money, they are not satisfied as to the justice and expediency of addressing the House of Commons, and calling for an inquiry into, and correction of, abuses in public expenditure. They do not wish to impede the workings of Parliament or of the government especially when the kingdom "is engaged in a necessary war, against the united strength of the prefidious House of Bourbon".
