TitleLetter; J. Percy Maule, Deputy Clerk, Huntingdonshire County Council Offices, to 8th Earl of Sandwich [Chairman of County Council]
DescriptionFrom studying copies of the Acts 16 & 17 Car and 29 Geo I is now in doubt whether i) the river Ouse is a canal within the meaning of the Railway & Canal Traffic Act, 1888) ii) if it is, whether the owner of the Navigation is not seeking to acquire greater Statutory Powers than he is entitled to. Has had consulations with Mr. J.C. Lewis Coward, and is now drawing up a case for Mr Coward's opinion with a view to his settling the objections of the County Council committee to parts of the proposed schedule of tolls now before the Board of Trade. Has also discussed the matter with Mr. Powers.
