| Title | Deposition: Charles Linton and James Marriott, labourers: Stealing a yard of gravel at Long Orton, property of the Marquis of Huntley. Evidence by the Marquis's bailiff, William Izzard and a highway surveyor Wm. Wright, that the two men had been employed to clear the land and raise the gravel. The Marquis charged nothing for the gravel, the parish paid only for the raising of it. He (the Marquis) had three heaps of his own from which the accused had helped themselves in order to earn 8d a yard without the labour of raising it. |
