(a) John Ledger (retired from the Metropolitan Police on a £30 Annual Pension for injuries received in "capturing the most notoriour burglars" and recently employed by a London firm of solicitors in chasing to the Cape of Good Hope a bankrupt absconding with a very large amount of property. Ledger had triumphantly brought back the bankrupt to England with the whole of the property.
