The family lived in Mill House, Main Street, Hartford, and her father [William] had a market garden in the old Mill Field (now up School Lane), greenhouses and an orchard in what is now Lark Crescent and a field for strawberries and vegetables in Mill Road. She joined the 1st Hartford Girl Guides when they were formed [see 5761/8], was a member of Hartford Women's Institute which was formed in 1918, and was a member of the church, helping with various church activities and outings.
