Description(The majority of the records are not dated but appear to be circa 1950-1965).

Records collected for the purpose of the Distribution Maps Scheme that were copied by Terry Wells from the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology at Monks Wood Experimental Station.

Envelope 1: Letter attached to John Gilbert from V.Burton/T.C.E.Wells thanking him for the loan of the records. Contains correspondence regarding plants spotted in Hunts , Beds (Pertenhall) and Herts (Ashwell).
Envelope 2: Record book by J.L.Gilbert mainly on HFF outings, 1955-1956. Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland Distribution Maps Scheme record card filled out by J.E.H.Blackie [John Ernest Haldane Blackie] c1955 showing the species of plants spotted in Alconbury. Correspondence regarding plants spotted in Hunts. List of trees in Kimbolton Park ientified by D.Watt, Dr.Gourlay and Dr.Walters of Cambridge Botany School, 08 July 1953.

Envelope 4: List of botanical records for the Norman Cross District of Hunts by J.L.Gilbert, 1940s. A small notebook of plant spottings in Hunts. Small handmade envelope with a pressed flower Impatiens capensis also known as "touch-me-not", 1958. Notebook belonging to John L.Gilbert of plant spottings and list of some modules for a Theoretical Social Anthropology and Sociology course.
Envelope 5: Notes and correspondence regarding plants spotted in Hunts, includes a letter from W.O.Copland of Kimbolton School, 1958.
Envelope 6: Notes and correspondence plants spotted in Hunts, including a letter regarding Orchid's in Houghton. Letter and list from John Ironside Wood regarding species recorded in Holme Fen dated 06 October 1962, a seperate list of recordings in Holme Fen dated 21 July 1962, notice of Junior Field Meeting for the Botanical Society of the British Isles at Holme Fen led by J.L.Gilbert dated 21st July. Letter from W.O.Copland regarding the giant hogweed at Stonely Hall, May 1962.

Envelope 8: List of specimen Hunts trees measured at about 5 feet from the ground during the years 1943-1950. Notes on plants found in Wansford between 1933-1935. Correspondence around plant findings 1949-1963, various notes on plant spottings.

Tied up in the bundle are some loose ephemera including a letter from Terry Wells on his time in Australia, 22 September 1983, another letter from Wells on not being able to locate any limestone in the north of Huntingdonshire, correspondence on flora spotting in Hunts parishes, Copy survey titled 'A Survey of Some of the Larger Fungi Found in Holme Fen Wood Between 1965 and 1971' by J.P.Houlton, undated list of plants and fungi identified, surveys titled 'Woodwalton Fen: The Vegetation of the Quadrats' 1956-1958 and a booklet titled 'A Biographical Index of the British Flora' 1960 by N.D.Simpson, p156-157 only.
