DescriptionIt is reported that on 21 May, 33 Henry VIII Elizabeth Polter widow and now the wife of William Norman surrendered through the hands of William Fidler bailiff and in the presence of Wm. Cokke and William Salmon, gents, 2 customary tenants, ½ of 1 tenement and 1 croft with apps. called Messingescroft and ½ of 3½a, called Lokwarens and ½ of 1 other croft late Henry Bremer's of 3a. and 6a. waste formerly Roger Byrle's. And 1 cottage and 3a. land formerly Richard ?? and 1 toft and 4a. Shonkes land and 6a. waste and on court of Monday after Corpus Christ 33 Hy.VIII said Elizabeth was admitted to said lands for life, with remainder to Richard Pulter, son of Richard and Elizabeth and his lawful heirs. If none, to right heirs of said Elizabeth for ever. Now William Norman, husband of said Elizabeth decd., seeks to be admitted to said lands. He and Elizabeth had 2 sons, Wm. and Henry. The decision whether the succession of the lands should pass to them is postponed till the court of Thurs. before Pentecost next. Doc. has deteriorated and some of its interpretation must therefore be guesswork.
