TitleCCC Archaeology Section reports
DescriptionPublications held by the former Local Government Information Service (LGIS) library, relating to the work of the County Council Archaeology Section. In 1992 the Archaeology Section was a team within Rural Strategy, part of the County Council's Property Department. In 1995 the Archaeology Section was transferred to the new Libraries and Heritage Department.

The series kept by LGIS is very incomplete, with many missing reports. If the numbering scheme used for creating the reports is an accurate guide then LGIS only held about 25% at most of the reports. The earliest surviving report in the LGIS library is report number 42, dating from 1992 (document reference CC7/LGIS/13/1). Archaeologist Tim Malim added additional series, including the A series and the B series for sites that had little or no archaeology (negative evidence), but these subsidiary series were abandoned in 2008, after the LGIS library had closed. The consecutive numbering for reports continued when the archaeology unit joined Oxford Archaeology in 2008. On at least one occasion the archaeologists themselves became confused with the numbering, when they numbered one report as A120 when it should have been just 120.

The LGIS library also collected archaeological reports from non-County Council archaeology units. For reports created by the Hertfordshire unit, see CC7/LGIS/[not yet catalogued].
