DescriptionThe early letters on this file relate to the 'Czech crisis' in September 1938, when it was anticipated war would break out, and hastily conceived arrangements for evacuating children and expectant mothers from London were being made. Also a number of Huntingdonshire children suffering from TB, or who were blind or deaf, were in residential schools and there is correspondence relating to their return to Huntingdonshire. Huntingdonshire County Council scheme for receiving evacuees, 800 per train, and for bussing them to villages with list of names of those in charge. The scheme was prepared in May 1939 and put into operation in September 1939 over 3 days. Circular letter form the chief medical officer, Ministry of Health, London, re medical care of evacuees. The remainder of the file contains correspondence dealing with the reception arrangements for evacuees, and their care, and the care and arrangements for confinement of expectant mothers.
