TitleAn overseers' minute book for Cambridge
DescriptionThe Overseers discuss issues relative to setting the poor rate, property valuation and collection. They include copies of correspondence between the Overseers, the Guardians of the Poor, the Assessment Committee of the Borough Council and the Local Government Board. Property reassessments are referred to the Overseers for viewing by the Assessment Committee, orders are issued for outstanding rates and amendments to collecting methods are recommended. Audits of rates are discussed and the 1923 fraud case against Herbert Alfred Bennett, Assistant Overseer is discussed.
