TitleHighway rate books
DescriptionThe highway rate was levied following the Highways Act of 1835 to pay for the maintenance of main roads within the parish; the upkeep of which was the responsibility of the parish surveyor.

These rate books contain the name of the occupier or person rated; a description of the premises and property rated; its annual value; sums assessed at the number of pence in the pound; amount of rate payable by the owner instead of the occupier; amount of arrears; total to be collected; amount collected annually; arrears; and amount not recoverable or legally excused.
