TitleMinute books of General Meetings of the Cambridge Improvement Commissioners
DescriptionMeetings of the Cambridge Improvement Commissioners, (Cambridge Improvement Board) occurred approximately once a month and were held at the Town Hall. The minutes list the Commissioners present and detail issues discussed relating to the paving, cleansing, and lighting of Cambridge, the widening of streets and the removal of obstructions. Issues often included the election of officers, the appointment of tradesmen and suppliers, the appointment of committees and a record of reports read, the raising of finance, the collection of rates, the payment of bills, the publication of advertisements in the newspapers, and surveys and inspections to be carried out. Early volumes include specific details of the location of new lamps, the laying of new paving and drains and permissions granted for works to property before these matters were passed onto specific committees to deal with.

Most volumes have an alphabetical subject index at the beginning or end of the volume.
