DescriptionThe Borough Fund account was populated by income from market tolls; cattle market tolls; proceeds for letting stalls at the Corn Exchange; proceeds from the Inspector of Weights and Measures; proceeds from the Keeper of the Haymarket Weighting Machine; tolls collected at Reach, Midsummer and Stourbridge Fairs; fees for lettings of the Guildhall; receive fees received direct to the Town Clerk; fees from the Clerk of the Peace; fees from the Clerk of the Justices; and collect rents due to the Corporation. Liable expenses included bills from Reformatory sand Truant Schools, payment of salaries of officers; payment of solicitors fees; and interest on Corporation bonds.

The General District Fund dealt with the income and expenditure of the Corporation as the Urban Sanitary Authority responsible for Sanitation, paving, drainage, lighting, the sanitorium and public works. Income generated from rates (poor and general district), grants from the Local Government Board, and Cambridgeshire County Council.

Impersonal ledgers, indexed at the front, recording the date, voucher number, who payment to a description of the payment; and the value of debits and credits. The top of each page provides details of the account debited or credited for example: the general interest account; the general district rate account; general district rate collection; and expenses of accounts for specific committees or departments.

The personal ledgers, indexed at the front, record debits and credits made to the district fund account, loan account; district linking fund; borough linking fund, borough fund, and police pension fund, (all of which were held with Barclays.) They also detail debits and credits made to the private work deposit and estimate accounts; sundry debtors and sundry collectors of the borough rate; district rate collections; payments to the Governor of Cambridge Prison; sewage farm accounts; miscellaneous receipts from committees; and individually names suppliers who have undertaken private street works. All payments recorded in the personal ledgers provide the date, voucher number, who the payment was to, a description of the payment; and the value. Borough fund impersonal ledgers records details of the balancing account; the borough rate account; the free public libraries account; the finance committee general account; salaries and allowances, the organ recital account; law and parliamentary expenses; fees and penalties account; the general interest account; repayments of loans account; department accounts; Clerk to the Justices and Clerk of the Peace accounts; criminal prosecutions and maintenance of juvenile offenders; constabulary account, charity accounts; general receipts and charges; committee accounts; and market accounts.
