TitleTaxation returns to the Ministry of Health
DescriptionTaxation returns compiled as a return for the Ministry of Housing and Local Governments, Whitehall. They comprise a shortened breakdown of expenditure and income for transactions set out in detail in local authority accounts including; education, public libraries, public health, housing, town and country planning, agriculture, highways and transport, private street works, police service, council elections, civil defence, entertainments, stock or bond discounts and expenses, costs of rate collection, agency arrangements, contributions to the County Council, income from rates, burial grounds, markets, corporation estates, sinking or redemption funds, reserve funds, renewals and repairs, superannuation funds, capital funds, and income tax suspense accounts. The early returns between 1889 and 1900 relate predominantly to the work of the Corporation as the Urban Sanitary Authority.
