DescriptionThe Commons Committee met monthly and dealt with issues relating to the management, maintenance, and use of the common land of the borough. Regular business included: reports given by the Inspector of Coprolites; authorizing payments; prosecution of cases of trespass; applications for common land required for coprolites; deposits of waste soil; use of the commons by the military or for entertainment; use of the bathing places on Sheep's Green; reports of the surveyor regarding infringements of the Cambridge Improvement Acts; election of sub-committees to investigate certain issues such as encroachments onto the commons; tenders for works or repairs; and the cleaning out of ditches. The cemetery committee met monthly and dealt with issues affecting Cambridge cemeteries. Regular business included tenders for works and services needed to the cemetery and related properties; reports read of the superintendent and visitors; breakdown of income and expenditure; authorisation for bills to be paid; and new planting within the cemetery. The Commons and the Cemetery Committees became a joint committee on 12 Nov 1920 responsible for the management, maintenance, and use of the Commons and cemeteries.
