TitleCambridge Survey and Plan: section no 4: recommendations concerning University and College development, building in the central area, and procedure by Professor WG Holford and H Myles Wright
DescriptionReport includes sections on the University and the Colleges, development in the Centre, future procedure and conclusion. The University and the Colleges includes: appreciation, existing distribution of buildings (pattern of growth), location of future buildings (case for remaining in the centre, case for removal West of the river, the third policy), University and College proposals, recommendations (reserve of land for the University, Western sites for new buildings, southward extensions and Lensfield Road, College extensions and new colleges). Development in the Centre includes: possible changes (central area shops), distribution of shops, use of floor space near the Centre, pre-war shopping trends (comparisons with other towns), demand for commerical floor space, provision for new commercial buildings, density and height of buildings, development by the Colleges. Future procedure includes: review of reports submitted, local examination of the proposals, discussions with government departments, designated areas, submission and approval. Conclusion is followed by tables (floor space of central area of Cambridge - summary of uses - Areas 1A, 1B and 2A, density of building accommodation - Areas 1A and 1B, and 2A and 2B).
