TitleCompensation claim by Charles Kay Ogden against the Corporation for damages under the Riot (Damages) Act, 1886
DescriptionMr Charles K Ogden's, the proprietor of the Cambridge Magazine, suffered damage to his premises at 6 and 10 Kings Parade and 63 Bridge street during riots on Armistice Day. His properties were targeted in response to his magazines pacifist stance during the war. The Corporation used this as an argument of provocation, and cited that at no point had the Riot Act been read and displayed, to try to prevent paying compensation under the 1886 Riots (Damages) Act.
