TitleAct confirming certain provisional orders of the Local Government Board relating to Cambridge and Southport
DescriptionLegal papers supporting the Corporation's application via the Local Government Board for a provisional order to increase the Boundary of the Borough of Cambridge to include sections of Chesterton, Newham, Grantchester, Trumpington and Cherry Hinton. This series comprises papers relating to preliminary research such as comparative statistics on rating, population, area, and debts of the existing Borough and the proposed area. Reports on the expenses of road maintenance, sewage disposal, supply of gas and electricity, and the provision of sanitation and medical facilities to inhabitants within and without the Borough. A Local Government Inquiry led by CE Norton took place in February 1911 before the Local Government Board supported the application through parliament. The series includes the Corporation's Brief, proofs (statements) of evidence and copies of evidence such as copies of correspondence, minutes, reports, maps, and newspaper articles. Objections were presented against the bill by Chesterton Rural District Council because of the financial loss of income from rates and the Cambridge District Licensed Victuallers protection and Benevolent Association who objected due to the increase in the minimum license duty.
