TitleThe Great Eastern Railway Bill, 1875
DescriptionThe Great Eastern Railways bill, promoted by the Great Eastern Railway Co, outlining the need to make two new junctions at Coldham's lane and Mill Road and remove their liability to pay a yearly £1000 toll to the Cambridge Improvement Commissioners. This series relates to the opposition to the bill by the Corporation and the Improvement Commissioners with particular reference to the new junctions at Mill Road and Coldham's Lane. The series consists of public notices calling meetings and advertising resolutions; correspondence between the clerk to the Commissioners, the Town Clerk, and parliamentary agents for all interested parties; minutes and reports of the Joint Parliamentary Committee; correspondence and reports of GW Stephenson, the town surveyor, regarding technicalities of GER's proposed improvements; memorials and petitions from local residents, the Corporation and the Improvement Commissioners against the new bill; surveys of traffic crossing junctions, tolls paid, and passengers carried; extracts from newspapers; parliamentary brief against the bill; printed copies of minutes of proceedings before the parliamentary select committee; a copy of the Great Eastern Railway bill, 1875; and plans and sections of proposed new bridges over junctions.
