DescriptionThis series comprises an extract from the thrity-first report of the charity commission 'Hobson's Workhouse, otherwise the Spinning-House,'1836; a charity scheme dividing the Spinning House into University and Town portions with a plan of the Spinning House and adjacent premises, 1852; material on the University portion of the Spinning House being given to the Town for use as a lock-up and police station, 1894-1897; documents relating to Charles Finch surrendering his lease of premises near the Spinning House, 1852-1853; a report on whether part of the Spinning House could be given to the Corporation to enlarge the police station, 1888;, a draft proposal for the redemption of land tax on the police station and Spinning House, 1899; reports of the Parliamentary Committee on the Spinning House, 1895; and a report and valuation of the property, 1894.
