TitleTreasurers' Accounts, temp Hen VII
DescriptionAdded to the system by W.M. Palmer, who placed it in an envelope with a note that it was 'found amongst the rubbish in the store room August 1935'. The top of the roll is damaged and the date missing. Palmer dated it 1504-5, 'Robert Morehouse Mayor'. Morehouse is mentioned as mayor on membrane 11 where Palmer has written in the margin '1502-3', so this seems to be a slip. Morehouse actually appears to have been mayor 1502-3 and 1503-4. The account cannot be of the earlier year as it includes payments to burgesses to the parliament of 25 January 1504 (membranes 8-9), to Christopher Druell, sheriff 1503-4 (membrane 11) and to Humphry Coningsby, King's serjeant, a lawyer acting on behalf of the Corporation in its dispute with the University in May 1503 (membrane 11, cf Cooper, Annals, i, 261). It can therefore be assigned with some certainty to 1503-4. As a paper duplicate (?draft) it belongs more properly with XVII/24A-B [PCS, June 1986]
