TitlePetition of the Inhabitants of Well, Elm, Emneth, Walsoken and Wisbech
DescriptionPetition against an order made by the Bedford Level Corporation to open up and widen the three arches of the sluice bridge between Upwell and Welney, so that the boats can navigate along Popham's Eau rather than by Well Creek. They believe that this would cause the bank to be badly damaged by haling, that the River Nene will soon be choked up, and that it will lead to the ruin of the town of Well. They ask for the sluice doors to be replaced, and for a sufficient quantity of water to be kept in Well Creek to allow for navigation. One hundred and ten signatories
