TitlePetition of Several Commissioners for Draining and Improving Fen Lands and Low Grounds in Downham Market, Wimbotsham, Stow Bardolph and Denver
DescriptionThe petitioners report that they were granted permission to lay a tunnel through the bank of Tong's Drain, so that the floodwater from the River Ouse can run off their lands in Downham Fen (see also Ref S/B/SP1494). They report that they cannot afford the annual payment of £30, and have passed a resolution to stop using the tunnel. They ask for the £30 they paid in April 1840 to be remitted, as they derived very little benefit from the tunnel during the proceeding year. Eight signatories.
