TitlePetition of Charles Fleetwood and Symon Smyth
DescriptionPetition of Charles Fleetwood and Symon Smyth, who lease 3,000-4,000 acres at Methwold Severalls. The Corporation has made a great bank which has stopped up the ditches and made ways over the ditches for the people to convey their stuff and made a sluice, but these ways are too soft and the Corporation ceases to keep them in repair and stopped up the ditches, so preventing access to the river. Many of their tenants have given up their farms and they have lost rents. They have received no redress and in 1665 were forced to repair the sluice and build a house by it for a sluice (bill attached for £70:14:2) for which they have received no reimbursement. The petitioners ask for payment of the bill and compensation for land lost.
