DescriptionPart 1, nos. 1-15: admiralty letters on matters relating to Lisbon station, including instructions, orders, papers about Russian fleet in river Tagus, and the blockade of St Urbes and Oporto, declaration of war with Russia. (No. 14 is covering letter to O40), November 1807-February 1808. Part 2, nos. 16-51: papers including intelligence from Vice Admiral Sir John Duckworth and others in quest of the Rochfort squadron, Captain Curzon's description of the Azores, intelligences from Rear Admiral Purvis and Admiral Lord Curzon, copy of Junot's proclamation to Portugal, January-December 1808. Part 3, nos. 52-77: correspondence with British general and a Russian admiral at Lisbon, intelligence from Spanish officers, observations of Sir Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington) upon the situation, Lieutenant-general Sir Hugh Dalrymple's proclamation about the regency of Portugal, February-September 1808. Part 4, nos. 78-79: papers, and letters from French officers with grievances, and from Captains Halkett and McKinley who superintended the embarkation of the French troops. Nos. 90-95: miscellaneous papers relating to Lisbon affairs including gratitude of Lisbon for freedom from the French, information from the Pope's nuncio about Ferdinand VII's intention to meet Napoleon at Burgos, February-October 1808. Part 5: nos. 97-102 (1 unnumbered): naval papers of Sir Charles Cotton as Captain of HMS Mars including list of French ships at Toulon 1794, warrant to impress men [printed], 1795, disposition of fleet in battle order, 1796, table of correspondence relating to Lisbon affairs, 1808, 1794-1796, 1808.
