TitleHildersham Manor and Estate
DescriptionThe history of this manor is complex (VCH, Vol. VI, pp. 59ff). Briefly, the Hildersham portion consisted originally of two manors - Overhall or Upperhall lay north of the river (and abutted Little Abington), Netherhall south of it (and abutted Great Abington). Over the years, some land in Little Abington passed into the ownership of Hildersham copyholders and some documents refer to the manor of Hildersham with Little Abington. Without detailed research it has been impossible to ascertain exactly what lands are referred to, but while 'Hildersham' may well refer to the whole of that parish, including land in Little Abington, 'Little Abington' only ever refers to that part of the parish of Little Abington belonging for a time to Hildersham Manor. John Mortlock owned this manor between 1801and 1810.
