TitleVisit to the Papworth Village Settlement by the Duke and Duchess of York
DescriptionThis is the only image of the visit of the Duke and Duchess on this particular day. See the website www.britishpathe.com for a newsreel of the event, where the Duke of York can be seen laying a foundation stone dated 23rd July 1929, and the Duchess of York presents trophies.
The Hunts Post of the 25th July 1929 carried a full page report of the visit, the second by the Royal couple to the Papworth Settlement.. Their first visit had been in 1924. This occasion was the opening of a new women's hostel, the laying of the foundation stone for a new workshop and the opening of the West Cambs Flower Show, held in the grounds of Papworth Hall. The following week (1st August) the paper carried three photographs of the visit, one very similar to this photograph
