TitleSalvation Army Cyclists' Group
DescriptionGroup of sixteen Salvation Army cyclists, all but one with a bicycle. They are standing outside a whitewashed one-storey building, possibly the Salvation Army Headquarters in Pinfold Lane, Godmanchester. "Godmanchester A Celebration of 800 Years" by Pam and Ken Sneath relates that the Salvation Army came to Godmanchester in 1871, and it was reported by Bird in his Memorials of Godmanchester that the Army "met with considerable opposition and boisterous treatment at first, especially from the rougher element", but this opposition gradually ceased. The Hunts Post reported in November 1887 that the Salvation Army band had been treated to a barrage of coarse songs and rotten eggs when they played in Huntingdon. See also WH1/153
