Description | Concerning a ford across the River Nene at Thompson's Gravel, Ramsey. The ford was a part of the Ely-Peterbrough Highway, and was kept in repair by the parish of Ramsey, Under an Act of 1810 for improving drainage, the Commissioners scoured the river, deepening it and so destroyed the ford. The questions are whether or not a bridge should now be built there, and whether the parish or the Commissioners should be responsible for the cost of erecting iy. (Mr Fellowes has a private bridge and Toll over the Nene a short distance off, and is, therefore, opposed to a new bridge as it would materially injure his toll.) |
